In this role, you will operate a variety of trucks and heavy equipment, perform hands-on roadway maintenance, and help keep Venango County's roads safe and reliable throughout the year. You will learn essential safety practices, support equipment care, and work as part of a team that takes pride in maintaining Pennsylvania's transportation network.
What You Will Do
- Operate Equipment: Drive trucks, loaders, and other machinery after receiving proper training and certification, and complete required pre- and post-operation inspections.
- Perform Roadway Maintenance: Use hand and power tools to clean culverts, cut brush and grass, repair guiderails, dig ditches, and complete other essential maintenance tasks.
- Support Work Zone Safety: Assist with traffic control and flagging to protect motorists and crew members when equipment is not in use.
- Maintain Tools and Vehicles: Perform minor repairs, routine preventive maintenance, equipment cleaning, and report missing or damaged tools.
- Assist Mechanics: Support diesel and construction equipment mechanics with repairs and help maintain accurate equipment records.
- Prioritize Safety: Wear required protective gear, stay alert to hazards, follow environmental guidelines, and report injuries or incidents immediately.
Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Dual shifts, overtime, and travel may be required. Work hours subject to seasonal change.
- Telework:You will not have the option to telework in this position.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Graduation from a Commercial Driver's License Training School; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirements:
- All positions require possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License or equivalent with the Air Brake Restriction (L) and Manual (E) Restriction removed.
- This position requires employees to demonstrate successful operation of equipment with a manual transmission.
- All positions require possession of an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations.
- All employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders, and two additional pieces of construction equipment, within the probationary period.
- This position requires an active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) during the probationary period and continuously maintain it while employed in this job.
- Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.

- This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations
