Job Overview
Provides respiratory care treatment, oxygen services, diagnostic testing, and ventilation support for in‑patients and out‑patients from neonatal to geriatric. Monitors and weans oxygen therapy and artificial ventilation, draws, analyses, and reports arterial blood gases and EKGs, delivers intermittent therapy, assists with changing artificial airways, and provides services as ordered by a physician in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Certifications:

Current State License as a Respiratory Therapist, Certified Respiratory Therapist (National Board of Respiratory Care), Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association, Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) for technicians working in the NICU, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) to be obtained within 90 days of hire

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Computer skills and dexterity for data entry and patient information retrieval; proficiency with Windows applications

Effective verbal and written communication; ability to present information clearly

Strong analytical and interpersonal skills

Job Duties

Perform routine and advanced therapeutic procedures per policy and procedure

Review and document all clinical information for each patient

Educate patients and co‑workers on procedures and treatment plans

Perform diagnostic procedures

Provide holistic care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety, and related criteria appropriate to patient age

Maintain professional certifications and up‑to‑date knowledge of technical procedures

Attend staff meetings

Other related duties as required

Physical and Environmental Demands
Physical demands include: very heavy work—exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements exceed those for heavy work and may include light work activities such as walking or standing heavily, pushing or pulling, or maintaining a production rate pace.

Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue. The incumbent works in a patient care area, works directly with patients, and/or works with specimens that could contain communicable diseases, resulting in an occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous medications or waste. Risk level may increase depending on essential job duties.
