THE POSITION

Become a Transportation Construction Inspector Supervisor - Bridge Inspection with the Department of Transportation and take on a key role in public safety. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position focuses on supervising bridge inspections and ensuring that structures remain safe and well documented. As a Transportation Construction Inspector Supervisor - Bridge Inspection, you will perform the following duties:

  • Bridge Inspections: Conduct and supervise inspections of bridges and structural components following NBIS standards
  • Record Management: Maintain inspection records, photographs, sketches, and required reports with accuracy
  • Team Supervision: Direct inspection staff, assign tasks, review work, and support employee performance and development
  • Coordination Work: Communicate with maintenance units, railroads, and project staff to plan access and resolve issues
  • Equipment Oversight: Ensure inspection tools and vehicles receive proper maintenance and request new equipment when needed
  • Safety Compliance: Use ladders, lifts, and safety gear correctly while promoting a safe work environment for all involved

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $51,971.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Transportation Construction Inspector (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Two years of construction inspection experience and an associate's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, geotechnical engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a closely related engineering technology; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Condition of Employment:
  • This position is required to meet the qualifications for a bridge inspection team leader as defined by the current National Bridge Inspection Standards.
  • This position requires possession of a valid non-commercial Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License or equivalent.
