THE POSITION

As an Equipment Operator A with the Department of Human Services at Clarks Summit State Hospital, you will play a key part in maintaining a safe and functional environment. Each day brings new tasks that support hospital operations and patient care. You will use a range of equipment to keep the grounds, roads, and facilities in good condition. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys active work that truly matters.


DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports Clarks Summit State Hospital by operating essential vehicles and equipment that keep the facility safe and functioning well. The role helps ensure transportation, grounds work, and maintenance tasks are completed accurately and on schedule. As an Equipment Operator A, you will perform the following duties:

  • Vehicle Operation: Operate light and medium-weight vehicles to support transportation needs and general facility functions
  • Project Equipment Use: Run tractors, loaders, saws, and other tools to complete digging, repairs, landscaping, and construction support tasks
  • Escort and Delivery: Transport patients, deliver meals, move supplies, and carry out pickup and delivery services across the facility
  • Equipment Care: Complete preventative maintenance, make minor repairs, and document equipment inspections and service activities
  • Snow Removal: Perform winter operations, including plowing, salting, and preparing equipment for seasonal conditions
  • Grounds Work: Maintain lawns, trees, and outdoor areas through mowing, trimming, planting, and debris removal

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch and a 12-hour shift every 5th or 6th weekend. Your schedule will include working rotating weekends and holidays.
  • Overtime- and travel: As needed
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Six months experience in the operation and maintenance of large vans, buses and single-chassis trucks with a gross vehicle weight of 10,001 pounds or more; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training

Special Requirement:

  • You must have possession of a valid Class C Pennsylvania driver's license.
