Description
The Certified Nursing Assistant delivers direct hands-on care to critically ill cardiology patients in our 15-bed Progressive Care Unit. Working in a clinic-style setting, the role includes:
Monitoring patients following advanced cardiology procedures (e.g., angioplasty, pacemaker placement, CABG, vascular revascularization, balloon pulmonary angioplasty).
Reinforcing individualized care plans developed by the healthcare team under physician guidance focused on mobility and cleanliness.
Encouraging self-care and treatment adherence among patients and families.
Managing and organizing unit equipment and supplies to ensure readiness.
Maintaining a CNA-to-patient ratio of 1:8.
Under RN supervision, the CNA supports the care continuum by providing basic patient care, assisting with daily living activities, and performing uncomplicated technical tasks. This role is well-suited for CNAs who have desires to become a cardiac registered nurse, and nursing students seeking to build experience in a cardiac progressive care environment.
Responsibilities
Participating in performance-improvement efforts like chart and room audits.
Utilizing various medical equipment and maintaining inventory.
Transporting patients, lab specimens, blood products, and supplies.
Assisting in decedent affairs.
Cross-training as a Hospital Unit Secretary.
Performing CPR during resuscitation.
This role demands strong initiative, a proactive approach to learning, effective prioritization, and the ability to adapt in a high-acuity cardiac care environment.
Responsibilities also include peer training and evaluation, assisting with schedule planning, and supporting unit administrative tasks.
Per Diem Requirements
Per diem CCPs must maintain a minimum of four shifts per scheduling period and are expected to support unit staffing needs, including floating to other units when appropriate.
In the event of missed shifts, per diem staff are expected to actively seek and pick up available shifts to meet scheduling requirements within the same scheduling period.
Flexibility, accountability, and reliability are essential for success in this role.
Minimum Qualifications
Must possess a valid California CNA Certificate.
BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.
Documented hands-on clinical experience in a licensed healthcare facility (acute care, skilled nursing, or rehabilitation setting), OR current enrollment in an accredited nursing program with at least one completed semester of hospital-based clinical experience.
Demonstrated ability to perform basic patient care tasks including activities of daily living (ADLs), vital signs monitoring, and infection control practices.
Ability to recognize and report changes in patient condition to licensed nursing staff.
Demonstrated experience working in a structured, team-based clinical or high-paced service environment with competing priorities.
Strong communication, professionalism, and teamwork skills.
Demonstrated reliability, time management, and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
Willingness to be trained in specialized skills such as 12-lead ECG and bladder scanning upon hire.
Ability to work in a collaborative team environment and adapt to a clinical care setting.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of EPIC, UCSD Paging System.
Medical Terminology Certificate.
Bilingual (Any language).

Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $65,396 - $65,396 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $31.32 - $31.32
