Job Description

The Gastroenterology RN provides pre‑procedure, intra‑procedure, and post‑procedure nursing care to patients undergoing endoscopy procedures. The RN identifies and implements nursing interventions, evaluates results for a wide variety of patient populations, assists physicians with endoscopy procedures, and provides moderate sedation under physician direction. Floating between departments is required.
Autonomous nursing care is expected, aligning with ANA Standards of Practice. Independent judgment is exercised within interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to patient care.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
RN license issued by the State of California.
BLS/CPR and ACLS certification at time of hire with commitment to obtain ART within six (6) months.
Minimum two (2) years of recent acute‑care RN experience within GI procedures.
Minimum two (2) years of recent pre‑, intra‑, and post‑operative GI procedure experience.
Excellent analytical and critical‑thinking skills.
Effective interpersonal and problem‑solving skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
BSN.
Specialty certification.
Experience in a high‑volume endoscopy suite handling GI procedures.
Experience performing both clinical nursing care and technical assistance in endoscopy procedures.
Managed scope handling equipment set‑up and procedural assistance.
CGRN or SGNA certification.
Special Conditions
Per‑diem shift requirement averages one shift per week; must be available one weekend shift every four weeks and one major holiday.
Ability to work various hours, days, shifts, on‑call, and locations based on the 24‑hour medical center’s business needs.
Ability to work on all GI locations at UCSD Health.
Employment subject to criminal background check and pre‑employment physical.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual full pay range: $190,342 – $190,342 (prorated if appointment percent is less than 100%). Hourly equivalent: $91.16. Factors determining compensation include experience, skills, education, licensure, certifications, and organizational needs.
