The Pennsylvania Department of Revenue (DOR) has an exciting opportunity available for a detail-oriented individual as a Tax Examiner 1. By participating in the six month formal, informal and on-the-job training program, you will develop the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to review and make corrections to suspended Employer and Sales Tax returns, ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations. DESCRIPTION OF WORK
Upon the completion of the six-month training period, you will have developed the technical knowledge, competence and skills in examining tax returns and will have learned the Commonwealth's tax laws, regulations, policies and procedures. You can expect to receive and review various suspended employer or sales tax returns and documents for compliance with state tax laws. This position determines liability and makes necessary corrections and additions to the return. You will learn to review image tax documents to assure complete, legible information and if needed, research various sources to verify information. You can expect to make telephone calls to businesses or individuals to obtain information and make necessary corrections to tax documents for processing.
You will learn how to:
- Prepare quarterly returns and issue assessments for delinquent periods
- Refer new accounts to the Registration Division
- Request corrected returns when the return cannot be processed because of insufficient or incorrect data
- Assist taxpayers and payroll companies with Employer and Sales Tax upload files

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
- In-Office training is required for minimum of six months.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to three days a week after successful completion of required in-office training. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
- Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $40,685.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Two years of general office work; or
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Additional Requirement:
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirement:
- This position will have access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and is subject to the provisions of IRS Publication 1075 (Pub 1075) which requires you to pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment. Under Pub 1075, acceptance of a conditional offer of employment will require submission to and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to: a fingerprint-based federal records check; a PA State Police clearance; a check of local law enforcement agencies where you have lived, worked, and/or attended school within the last five (5) years; and a citizenship/residency verification.
