What You’ll Do
Ground patrol lines and facilities to assess vegetative conditions, maintain records of work, and arrange access to facilities with landowners for vegetation management.
Perform aerial patrol on FAC-003 compliance lines to assess vegetation-to-conductor distances, capture conditions in forestry computer systems, and coordinate responses for imminent threats identified during patrols.
Investigate and resolve landowner issues and concerns; document and address areas where FAC-003 vegetation management plans are constrained.
Estimate vegetation management requirements and costs for construction and rebuilding of facilities; determine future vegetation management needs and develop short- and long-term work plans and best management practices.
Coordinate with governmental agencies, other utilities, landowners, and others to arrange and coordinate right‑of‑way vegetation management work plans; inspect contractors for safety and contract compliance and recommend corrective actions.
Advise on work plans, priorities, schedules, and contractor requirements in accordance with the vegetation management program and FAC-003 compliance; apply current contract provisions.
Maintain records and prepare reports on costs, production, and work quality; operate forestry computer programs and records systems.
Guide and train others involved with the vegetation management program in proper work practices and procedures.
Identify and schedule aerial herbicide and aerial saw vegetation management, including required permitting where applicable.
What You’ll Need
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Urban Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Arboriculture, or related field with two (2) years of experience as a contract utility forester (desirable), OR Associate’s degree with four (4) years of experience, OR High school diploma with six (6) years of experience in utility vegetation management.
License & Certificates:
Knowledge and safe use of pesticides required. Arborist certification desirable. Possession of Certified Pesticide Applicator’s license desirable for each state within the forester’s area of responsibility. ISA certification required or obtainable within two years of employment. Completion of an “in the wires zone” aerial patrol course within one year of employment.
Additional Requirements
Act professionally and diplomatically to communicate vegetation control projects to the public.
Courses in horticulture and/or vegetation management desirable.
Competency in GIS and Microsoft Office (Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and other analytical tools.
Extensive travel required to inspect and plan for right-of-way maintenance programs.
Apply accounting policies and guidelines related to expense vs. capitalization for labor, services, and materials where applicable.
Salary and Compensation
Compensation:
Transmission Forester Assc: $54,063-$63,703; Transmission Forester: $63,496-$74,078; Transmission Forester Sr: $74,551-$86,977. Additional benefits and a comprehensive compensation package are provided.
Pay Information:
Compensation data includes compensation grade SP20-005 and compensation range $54,063.00 - $93,188.50.
