
Commercial Business Risk Officer Sr – Middle Market & Core Credit

The Commercial Bank Business Risk Officer, Sr. will have responsibility for driving and overseeing key risk activities for the assigned Commercial Business Unit(s) (i.e., Corporate, Specialty & Government Banking; Commercial Real Estate; Middle Market Banking; Commercial Administration Services; Asset Finance; Capital Markets, etc.). Key risk activities include identifying, monitoring, measuring, mitigating, and reporting on the Business Unit’s risk and control environment. Initially, this position will cover Middle Market Banking and core credit processes and systems for the Commercial Bank.
Duties and Responsibilities
Drive a proactive risk culture and disciplined execution of risk management practices, ensuring alignment with Huntington’s overall risk appetite
Maintains SME knowledge of Huntington credit policies and key credit regulatory requirements and applies them to Commercial credit products and processes
Understands credit risk associated with Commercial Bank products, systems, and practices and advises on control design and effectiveness, including identifying opportunities to strengthen control environment and supporting credit-related projects and initiatives
Understand key business processes, products, and services; analyze risk impact with a focus on Credit Risk; and advise on strategies to effectively manage risk
Define, document, and build controls for key processes
Develop comprehensive testing plans for first line validation of findings, issues, and controls to ensure accuracy and reliability
Leverage AI and data analytics to identify efficiencies, enhance risk monitoring, and support decision‑making
Develop holistic monitoring strategies that integrate emerging risks, internal and external factors, and support mitigation efforts
Establish and maintain strong relationships and effective collaboration with key stakeholders to drive implementation of risk management programs and responsibilities
Identify and assess the impact of emerging and top risks; advise on the development of monitoring approaches and mitigation strategies
Complete risk and control self‑assessments using qualitative and quantitative analyses of control effectiveness, residual risk, metrics, findings, risk acceptances, audit/examination results, and top and emerging risks by risk pillar in alignment with Enterprise Risk Management guidance
Maintain detailed understanding of issues impacting the Business Unit and drive disciplined management of findings and actions
Lead or actively participate in governance forums including working groups, committees, and enterprise programs to communicate Segment Risk perspectives and obtain insight into corporate‑wide goals and objectives
Support Business Unit(s) in preparing for, managing, and responding to Audit, Credit Review, Compliance, and Regulatory reviews/examinations
Assess the impact of new or changed products, services, technology/systems, processes, or other initiatives to ensure alignment with Huntington’s risk appetite and governance processes such as the Products and Service Risk Assessment process
Basic Qualifications
7+ years of related experience in controls functions such as Line of Business Risk, Enterprise Risk, Audit, Credit Review, relevant operational or credit areas, or similar
Bachelor's degree in business or related field
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge and understanding of Commercial Banking credit processes and products
Deep understanding of control design and management
Deep understanding of and ability to apply risk management practices
Experience in standing up control processes for new businesses
Demonstrated understanding of risk management across all pillars
Proficient in Archer and Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio), including ability to present information in written form (slide decks, email, etc.)
Acts with a sense of urgency and effectively adjusts based on priorities
Embraces and leads change and transformation through influence
Able to navigate differing points of view and perspectives with professionalism and growth mindset
Clear, concise, and organized communication appropriate for the intended audience
Able to navigate ambiguity in organizations, processes, and requirements
