Tax Compliance Officer IV

The Vermont Department of Taxes is seeking a talented individual to support public programs through the accurate and equitable collection of Vermont taxes. This position will be involved with the review of taxpayer records for compliance and providing education to taxpayers. Key responsibilities include collecting unpaid taxes on behalf of the state, arranging formal payment agreements, proposing settlements, and waiving selected penalties. The ideal candidate will be inquisitive, collaborative, digitally proficient, and self-motivated with excellent communication skills and a holistic thinking approach.

The hourly salary rate for this position ranges from $27.50 to $42.94, and the annual salary ranges from approximately $57,200 to $89,315.20. The starting salary for this position may be negotiable depending on experience and qualifications.
The Compliance Division is responsible for promoting and ensuring Vermont taxpayer compliance, with a focus on early intervention, education, outreach, and fairness. This position will primarily support the Department of Taxes. Candidates must agree to be fingerprinted and pass a background check to be eligible for this position, which will involve access to sensitive federal tax information.
