Part-Time Maintenance Worker

Join our team in Pomona's Public Works Department! We currently have one part-time Maintenance Worker opening in our Streets Division specializing in Painting and Signage. In this role, you will support the Streets Division with a range of hands-on responsibilities that contribute directly to the City's infrastructure and daily operations. This position may be assigned to either Streets or Paint and Sign and may float between both areas based on operational needs. Duties include performing semi-skilled work to maintain clear and visible street and curb markings such as legends, crosswalks, and stop bars, as well as assisting with street maintenance and repair activities including patching potholes, repairing road edges, and replacing damaged asphalt. You may also assist with general maintenance tasks, work site cleanup, and other assignments that support the overall efficiency of the division. This is a great opportunity to gain practical experience, build valuable skills, and play a meaningful role in maintaining safe and functional streets for the Pomona community.
This at-will, hourly position that averages 20 hours per week, with less than 1,000 hours annually. Make sure your application is complete and highlights any relevant experience. Minimum Qualifications To Apply

Any combination equivalent to experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:
Must be at least 18 years of age.
1 year of experience in maintenance or related tasks.
Must possess and maintain a valid California driver's license and have a good driving record.
Knowledge of common tools and equipment used in maintenance work.
Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions; read and write basic English; lift moderately heavy objects; learn the City's geography; work cooperatively and effectively with others; and possess excellent customer service skills.
Skill to operate tools, equipment, and vehicles safely and efficiently.
Special Requirements: Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, twist, push, pull, and lift up to 50 lbs.: work is performed on City streets; exposure to inclement weather conditions, heat, traffic, noise, outdoors, vibration, chemicals, explosive materials, mechanical hazards, and electrical hazards; and ability to travel to different sites and locations.
Essential Duties

When Assigned to the Streets Division; This assignment assists full-time staff with duties that may include, but not limited to:
May be assigned to either Streets or Paint and Sign;
This assignment may "float" between Streets and Paint and Sign depending on needs of the Division;
Perform a variety of semi-skilled tasks related to maintaining City street and curb markings, including street legends, cross walks, stop bars, to ensure good visual markings are maintained;
Ability to accurately identify, match, and reproduce colors for paint applications and sign production;
Perform various semi-skilled and skilled duties involved in the maintenance and repair of streets; fills pot holes and repairs road edges with patch material; removes and replaces asphalt in areas damaged; and
Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
When Assigned to the Fleet Services Division:
Clean and maintain the fleet maintenance shop areas and fuel island, which includes sweeping, moping, and emptying trash cans;
Pick up parts and assist the storekeeper;
Transport vehicles to different City locations, such as dealerships, the Police Department, or the car wash;
Assist mechanics when needed; and
Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
When Assigned to the Parks and Landscape Division:
Assist performing general maintenance and irrigation installation and repair work including the replacement and/or repair of broken or damaged parts; rebuild irrigation rotors, valves, and other parts as necessary;
Perform a variety of maintenance related duties including trash, debris, and fallen limb pick up, tree watering, tree trimming, general landscape maintenance, and transportation to and disposal at City Yard; and
Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
When Assigned to Recycling/Environmental Programs:
Spanish bilingual skills required;
Drive and walk assigned route to monitor and inspect recycling containers;
Sort recycling materials in containers and remove non-recyclable items;
Educate Pomona residents on recycling and other environmental issues;
Perform data entry;
Develop and complete reports; and
Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Work Hours: Up to 20 hours per week. Hours vary by assignment. The assignments will be based on the needs of the organization and may change or be reassigned as needed.
