Job Description
Rivers Health is seeking a full‑time Certified Medical Assistant or Licensed Practical Nurse for the General Surgery Office. The role assists the provider with patient treatment in the office and handles administrative and nursing duties related to patient care. The assistant maintains a high quality of care within an office setting.
Perform general nursing duties.
Assess patients’ general condition and take vital signs.
Assist physicians with examinations, diagnostic procedures, and treatments.
Document all activities, interventions, and medications in the patient record.
Obtain pre‑certifications, pre‑authorizations, and referrals from insurance companies.
Promote wellness by providing patient education materials and communicating physician advice and instructions.
Handle critical lab values and promptly seek physician orders.
Schedule outside referrals.
Assist with medical procedures.
Answer telephone and triage patient care issues directly to clinic provider.
Schedule patients for office visits and/or hospital tests.
Send prescriptions to pharmacy.
Call patients with test results.
Maintain exam rooms and other patient areas for physician examinations.
Ensure safety, infection control, and policies are followed.
Perform routine office laboratory procedures.
Maintain equipment and supplies needed for patient care.
Adhere to corporate policies, JCAHO, Rural Health, departmental policies, and employee handbook.
Demonstrate professionalism and accountability.
Foster an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration.
Cover for coworkers during absences and complete full range of duties.
Perform general receptionist duties including answering phones, scheduling patients, preparing cash receipts, registering patients, and entering daily charges.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Graduate of an approved school of nursing for Licensed Practical Nurse, or Certified Medical Assistant Program. Must hold an active certification/license. One year experience preferred in a provider office or hospital related area working with direct patient care.
