
Policy Intern (Summer 2026)

The CASH Campaign of Maryland is dedicated to improving financial security for low- to moderate-income individuals and families across Maryland. Through direct services, policy advocacy, and strategic partnerships, we help over 20,000 households annually by providing free tax preparation, financial coaching, financial education, and access to public benefits.
We also lead statewide efforts to promote economic mobility by supporting coalitions, hosting convenings, and advancing impactful policy solutions.
Position Summary
The Policy Intern will support the organization’s policy research and advocacy initiatives, reporting directly to the Director of Policy. This role offers hands‑on experience in public policy, legislative tracking, and advocacy at the state level, with some exposure to federal policy work.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct research on policy issues impacting financial security, savings access, and asset‑building programs
Analyze policy options at state and federal levels
Draft issue briefs and policy summaries
Monitor legislation and prepare tracking reports
Assist with policy meetings, materials, and coordination
Support communications efforts (action alerts, website content, newsletters)
Represent the organization at coalition meetings when needed
Assist with events such as lobby days, town halls, and community engagement sessions
Take notes during internal and external meetings
Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required (or in progress). Preferred fields include: Public Policy, Political Science, Public Administration, Government, Social Work, Pre‑Law, Psychology, or related disciplines.
Strong writing, research, and communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
Self‑motivated with strong attention to detail
Commitment to advancing equity and supporting underserved communities
Reliable transportation and ability to travel (including to Annapolis as needed)
Ability to lift up to 25 lbs if required
Work Environment & Schedule
Hybrid work model
Office hours: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
2–3 days per week in‑office
Occasional travel required within Maryland
Compensation & Benefits
$15.00 per hour
