Summary
VA Portland Health Care Systems is filling multiple Housekeeping Aid‑EVS Technician vacancies for multiple shifts at the main VA Hospital in Portland, Oregon and the Vancouver, Washington facility. Recruitment incentive authorized. The announcement may be used for up to 90 days to fill additional vacancies that may arise.

Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following requirements. Evidence of training or experience sufficient for the duties must be provided. Applicants will be evaluated first against the screen‑out element and then against the remaining job elements: reliability, dependability, dexterity, safety, following directions, handling weights, work practices, and special aptitude. Experience includes paid, unpaid, and volunteer work. Credit will be given for all qualifying experience. Detailed descriptions of such experience must be included on the resume.

Duties

Execute the full range of housekeeping activities in patient and non‑patient care areas.

May be assigned to any tour and may be required to work in various designated areas during any tour of duty.

Work independently with general supervision or as part of a team, responsible for full‑range cleaning duties in assigned area.

Perform floor maintenance: wall washing, sweeping, dust‑mopping, damp and wet mopping, scrubbing, stripping, refinishing, buffing, vacuuming, extracting carpets, spot cleaning, high and low dusting.

Use pressure washers and heavy industrial equipment; perform minor maintenance and change attachments as needed.

Empty trash and wastebaskets, replace liners, transport general refuse, regulated medical waste, and recycling to central collection areas.

Clean restrooms, bathrooms, shower rooms, ensuring they meet standards (disinfect, deodorize, clean mirrors, sinks, fountains, polish fixtures).

Replenish supplies of paper towels, toilet paper, hand sanitizers, and soap in all dispenser locations.

Move and arrange furniture, patient wardrobes, beds; provide bed‑making services in patient care areas and OD rooms; clean mattresses, springs, bed frames, bedside stands, over‑bed lights, blood‑pressure cuffs, bed tables.

Remove soiled textiles, load and unload clean textiles, restock textile closets, and participate in inventory management.

Defrost and clean patient‑care refrigerators and ice machines; clean stainless‑steel storage cabinets and counters, elevators, ashtrays, smoke stands, sand urns, and water fountains.

Provide interim window and glass surface cleaning; replace curtains and clean blinds; clean or replace needle boxes.

Periodically clean specific non‑critical reusable medical equipment in inpatient and clinical areas.

Work Schedule: Permanent full‑time positions; shifts 1, 2, and 3, weekdays, weekends, holidays. Shift changes may occur to meet agency needs.

Physical Requirements: continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, pushing; occasional use of heavy powered equipment weighing over 50 lb; requires dexterity, coordination, concentration, and visual acuity.

Pay: Competitive salary with regular increases; potential higher step rate for unique qualifications.

Recruitment incentive authorized. Paid time off: 37–50 days annual PTO (13–26 days leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 federal holidays). Credit toward annual leave for prior federal or military service. Parental leave: 12 weeks paid after 12 months of employment. Child‑care subsidy: 60 days employment, full‑time employees with family income under $144,000 may receive subsidy up to 25 % of eligible costs, up to $416.66 monthly. Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401(k) with up to 5 % contribution. Insurance: Federal health, vision, dental, term life, and long‑term care.
