Responsibilities
The State Forest Program in Tillamook District manages 251,000 acres of State Forest land, about one third of the State‑owned forest land in Oregon. The Forester in this position will assist in State Forest Management. Primary functions include performing the various technical tasks associated with the sale of forest products and related silviculture to implement the Northwest Oregon Forest Management Plan.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in forestry, or a closely related natural resources program.

OR three years of experience in Forestry, State Forest Management, or a closely related natural resource program.

Driver’s license check: this position requires the operation of a state vehicle for official State business. Applicants with non‑Oregon licenses must submit a three‑year court/DMV printout. Oregon drivers will undergo a record check.

Desired Skills

Ability to make technical decisions related to timber sale layout, posting harvest boundaries, harvest design, road location, and timber cruising size, grade, and defect of stands.

Ability to evaluate harvesting practices, logging systems, and tree selection on timber sales.

Ability to make on the ground decisions relative to contract compliance with Oregon Fire Laws, State Forest Management Plan, Habitat Conservation Plan and Forest Practices Rules.

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Ability to collect stand data and information.
