Department Information
The University of Northern Colorado is located in Greeley, Colorado, a population over 100,000, an hour’s drive north of Denver, and within driving distance of the Rocky Mountains. UNC has an enrollment of over 12,000 students who attend classes on the 250‑acre campus and is large enough to provide true university opportunities while remaining small enough to treat students and employees as individuals. Description Of Job

This position is only open to current Colorado residents.

Lateral Hires
Applicants with qualified experience will be paid within the step system equivalent to their experience, up to $88,740 annually for five or more years of experience as a sworn police officer. Qualified experience must come from a like‑sized or larger municipal, state, county, or university policing agency where the applicant served as a patrol officer, investigator, or supervisor. In order to qualify as a lateral, applicants must be currently employed, or have been employed within the last six months at a law‑enforcement agency.

POST‑certified applicants who do not meet the criteria for lateral pay will begin at the base salary and progress through the step system.

Job Responsibilities

Patrol campus to prevent or discover criminal activity.

Respond to calls for service concerning both criminal and non‑criminal activity.

Conduct field interviews of suspicious persons, investigate criminal actions, collect evidence, interview victims, witnesses, and suspects, and make arrests or detentions as appropriate.

Conduct traffic enforcement for motor‑vehicle violations and investigate motor‑vehicle accidents.

Prepare reports concerning all activity; complete reports on criminal actions for presentation to the district attorney for prosecution and reports for university administrative action.

Testify in court and at university hearings.

Ensure all citations, forms, and procedures are completed correctly and accurately.

Ensure all evidence is logged and stored properly.

Respond to medical emergencies and render first aid care until the arrival of paramedics.

Assist as needed, gathering information about the victim, condition, history, and facts of injury.

Provide crowd control.

Assist with rescue, carry litter, supply special equipment as needed, and climb ladders.

Provide traffic direction and control as needed.

Provide assistance and support to the university community through money escorts, crowd control at athletic events, security at concerts and parties, performing security surveys, developing and presenting crime‑prevention programs, motorist assistance, unlocking facilities, delivering emergency messages, and checking security of buildings.

Provide assistance and support to the community of Greeley and Evans by participating in mutual‑aid activities with the Greeley and Evans Police Departments.

Assist with major motor‑vehicle accidents, traffic control, disturbances, riots, major criminal activity, investigations, parades, and special events.

Respond to alarms—including fire, intrusion, robbery, and panic—for protection of lives and property; evacuate buildings, determine the cause of the alarm, summon proper persons or agencies, or correct the problem.

Participate in training, both in‑service and specialized, and maintain proficiency with firearms, arrest control, defensive tactics, and first aid skills.

Perform other duties as assigned, including vehicle maintenance, delivering documents, providing escorts, and handling animal complaints.

Job offer is conditional upon successful completion of both a psychological and a physical examination.

Minimum Qualifications

Current, valid Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certification.

One year of experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position.

Appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
