Job Description
This Neurosurgery Advanced Practice Provider (APP) position is a predominantly ambulatory clinic and operating room role located primarily at SLH. The primary patient population is adult, with a focus on Spine Surgery.
The employee will be responsible for the medical management of the Neurosurgery patient population within the scope of an Advanced Practice Provider. The term Advanced Practice Provider encompasses Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and Clinical Nurse Specialists. The employee will have successfully completed a Master's degree (or higher) and have met state Board requirements in Missouri and Kansas.
The APP will hold and maintain national certification and licensure as required by State Boards and Saint Luke's Health System, and other certifications required for this role.
Neurosurgery disease processes the APP will be expected to accurately diagnose and treat include general neurosurgery with a focus on subspecialized patient populations as indicated.
Skills
Utilizes prescriptive authority in accordance with state and federal laws and regulations.
Obtains and documents relevant problem‑focused or comprehensive history from patient/medical records in a timely manner.
Communicates effectively using appropriate terminology, format, and technology in accordance with health system policies.
Analyzes data to determine health status.
Communicates effectively with other healthcare professionals.
Performs an accurate physical exam.
Demonstrates basic science and up‑to‑date clinical knowledge.
Establishes a patient relationship characterized by mutual respect, empathy, and collaboration.
Takes initiative for seeking opportunities to advance knowledge and experiences.
Flexibility with scheduled rotations/locations as needed to ensure patient needs are met.
Role Duties
Completion of admissions, consultations, subsequent‑day visits and discharges in the inpatient setting.
Independent practice in the outpatient clinic and/or inpatient setting and collaborating with physicians as appropriate.
Ordering and management of appropriate laboratory and diagnostic studies.
Training and competency for procedures applicable to the department of hire.
Participation in the operating room in a first‑assist role.
Requirements
1 year Advanced Practice Provider certification (MO/KS).
Basic Life Support – American Heart Association or Red Cross.
Master's Degree.
