Project Overview
The rapid growth of AI and digitalization is fueling unprecedented demand for data centers that require large, reliable sources of energy. In response to this market trend, the Renewables & Clean Power (R&CP) team has signed an early works contract to build one of the largest gas‑fired power generation facilities in the U.S. Our team is helping the customer progress early‑stage development, leading toward full EPC delivery this year.

Job Summary
The Field Engineer – Subcontract Coordinator will provide project field engineering specialization and expertise with work planning and packaging, material management, quantity verification and validation, safety and quality control, technical inspection and testing knowledge, and subcontract coordination. The role involves ensuring field engineering activities operate safely, are complete, and conform to quality standards and project requirements. The primary responsibility is related to subcontracted portions of the project, but may evolve to include support of direct hire scopes of work.

Major Responsibilities

Work Planning & Packaging: Prepare construction drawings and sketches pertaining to a subcontract scope of work and facilitate planning of construction methods and procedures.

Material Management: Initiate requisitions for field purchases; prepare quantity takeoffs of field purchased material and equipment; issue Material Withdrawal Requests (MWRs) to subcontractors; track ROS and need dates ensuring Bechtel provided materials support subcontractors schedule.

Quantities: Verify commodities on quantity tracking systems or other computer database systems; track and validate subcontractor claimed quantities.

Safety / Quality Control: Ensure zero accident philosophy is implemented and adhered to by craft and others; ensure contractors follow agreed quality standards in subcontract; audit and inspect contractor work and deliverables.

Technical: Provide support to the resolution of technical issues and/or nonconformities; act as liaison between design engineering and subcontractor; inspect subcontractor scope as per approved Inspection and Test Plans.

System Turnover Coordinator (Direct Hire): Develop firm understanding of system and area scoping and drawings required for package development.

STR / Subcontract Coordinator: Review and approve inspection test plans; coordinate reviews of subcontractor submittals; review and support subcontract administrator in reviewing claims; ensure timely submittal of documentation from subcontractor to Bechtel per ITP and subcontract.

Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 5‑8 years of relevant experience or 9‑12 years of relevant work experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills

Coordinate with Procurement on subcontract requirements, provide technical support and guidance, liaise with design engineering as necessary.

Attend kickoff meetings and coordinate between subcontractors and superintendents.

Collect daily shift reports from subcontractors and verify records.

Review subcontractor performance and liaise with superintendents.

Record delays, breakdowns, and non‑conformances in subcontract performance.

Support and/or generate meeting minutes from all subcontractor progress meetings as directed by the Area/Lead Field Engineer.

Basic to intermediate knowledge of subcontract management, preference given to those that have managed contractors using Bechtel systems and SWPPs.

Strong electrical knowledge on cable pulling, raceway installation A/G and U/G, including applicable electrical codes (IEEE, NEC, NFPA, etc.).

Prior experience in the installation of Gas Insulated Switchyards is desirable.
