
Pre-Certified or Certified Medical Assistant

Overview
The Pre-Certified Medical Assistant will assist the primary clinical team with patient flow for each respective provider for whom they work.
This position does not manage any other caregivers.
Responsibilities
Escorts patients to exam rooms and prepares them for the provider's assessment.
Records and maintains patients' medical data in their medical charts.
Assists the provider with answering phone requests from patients and/or other medical professionals and institutions.
Maintains equipment, instruments, and supply inventory levels.
Supports the organization's vision, mission, and values in all respects.
Supports Lean principles of continuous improvement with energy and enthusiasm, functioning as a champion of change.
Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients, and guests.
Conducts all activities with the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality. Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures, supporting the organization's corporate integrity efforts by acting in an ethical and appropriate manner, reporting known or suspected violation of applicable rules, and cooperating fully with all organizational investigations and proceedings.
Delivers customer service and/or patient care in a manner that promotes goodwill, is timely, efficient, and accurate.
May perform additional duties of similar complexity within the organization, as required or assigned.
Education
Pre-Certified Medical Assistant
Required: High school diploma or GED.
Preferred: Healthcare related classes.
Certified Medical Assistant
Required: High school diploma or GED.
Preferred: Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
Licensing, Certification, and Registration
Pre-Certified Medical Assistant
Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) after completion of orientation. Must complete medical assistant certification within two (2) years of hire.
Preferred: Uncertified Medical Assistant, Phlebotomist, Unlicensed Assistive Personnel, Emergency Medical Technician Basic (EMT-B), Emergency Room (ER) Technician, Electrocardiogram (ECG) Technician, Pharmacy Technicians, and any other clinical certification.
Certified Medical Assistant
Required: Current MA Certification from one of the following: American Medical Technology Association (AMT), National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) Certification, National Healthcareer Association (NHA). The candidate may also hold licensure as an intermediate or paramedic level EMT, Oregon LPN, or Oregon RN. AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification is also required.
Preferred: Current American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) certification.
Ability to travel to business functions, trainings, and meetings and all St. Charles Health System worksites.
Experience
Pre-Certified Medical Assistant
Required: Previous experience or exposure to the healthcare or medical field, including college-level coursework in a health-related field, administrative roles in a healthcare setting, or clinical/patient-facing experience. Equivalent combinations of education, training, or experience that demonstrate basic medical knowledge, familiarity with healthcare environments, and medical terminology will be considered.
Preferred: N/A
Certified Medical Assistant
Required: Basic knowledge of ICD-10, CM/CPT/HCPCS coding conventions and procedures. Working knowledge of medical practice management information systems. Basic knowledge of physician office documentation standards. Must maintain confidentiality and meet all HIPAA requirements. Candidates with NHA certification that qualified via work experience rather than graduation from an accredited Medical Assisting Program must have one (1) year of experience in medical assisting.
Preferred: Two (2) years of medical assisting experience.
