Clinical Coordinator – Nursing (School of Nursing, Malcolm X College)
Primary Objective:
Reporting to an assigned administrator, a Clinical Coordinator – Nursing is responsible for coordinating the clinical placement of nursing students at various clinical sites that provide supervised clinical learning experiences for students. The Coordinator develops and maintains collaborative relationships with clinical affiliates (hospitals, clinics, skilled nursing facilities, and other agencies) to ensure that student clinical experiences meet the educational requirements of the nursing curriculum. This role is expected to travel to clinical sites such as partner hospitals or long‑term care facilities.
Essential Duties
Act as liaison between clinical affiliates, nursing faculty, and program administrators to ensure a high level of quality in student learning during clinical education.
Collaborate with faculty and site administrators to provide rotations that meet learning objectives.
Maintain student health records and review required health and safety documents, including vaccination and drug screening records.
Facilitate and solve problems related to clinical placement in areas such as medical‑surgical, mental health, maternal‑child, pediatrics, and gerontology nursing.
Coordinate the collection of agency‑specific documentation (e.g., background checks, Healthcare BLS certification) necessary for placement.
Provide faculty with required site‑specific orientation materials and schedule faculty or student orientation.
Ensure students complete orientation requirements and attend agency‑specific orientation before all rotations.
Serve as liaison between the clinical agency and CCC's School of Nursing to ensure orientation requirements are met.
Maintain records of clinical placement and students’ completion of clinical requirements and compliance with curriculum requirements.
Conduct site visits to assess appropriateness of clinical activities and students’ practice experiences.
Assist the medical director in performing annual site evaluations as part of contract/affiliation renewal.
Collect data and prepare reports on clinical sites for accreditation, grants, and related reports.
Strictly adhere to HIPAA and FERPA regulations.
Perform administrative duties as assigned in support of the Nursing Department.
Qualifications
Advanced certificate in practical nursing or an Associate’s degree in Nursing or higher from an accredited institution.
State of Illinois licensed practical nurse (LPN) or registered nurse (RN) with an unencumbered license.
Five years of work experience in clinical nursing.
Ability to work varied hours, including evenings and/or weekends.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Knowledge of program accreditation standards and regulatory compliance.
Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational and analytical/problem‑solving skills.
Ability to work within a culturally diverse environment and exercise tact and diplomacy in handling sensitive situations.
Ability to use critical thinking to guide decision‑making.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range:
$81,085 – $89,193.50, based on collective bargaining agreement and applicant qualifications.
