Job Description and Duties
Under the supervision of the Chief Nurse Executive or Director of Nursing, the Nurse Instructor (NI), Correctional Facility (CF), is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, assessing, and evaluating the training, educational and competency programs for all nursing personnel in compliance with the Incarcerated Medical Services Policies and Procedures, the Mental Health Services Delivery System (MHSDS) Program Guide, and the various levels of nursing licensure.

The NI, CF is responsible to work with management and other health care providers to address and meet the ongoing training needs of the staff, to facilitate and provide orientation programs for new employees, and to promote the efficient, appropriate, and cost-effective use of health care resources.

The NI, CF is experienced and knowledgeable in all aspects of the nursing process, including nursing protocols, policies and procedures, treatments, etc.; nursing scopes of practice; principles, methods and strategies of teaching and learning, and needs of adult learners.

Effective July 1, 2025, in accordance with the applicable Memorandum of Understanding, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented in response to the status of the State budget. PLP 2025 requires each full-time employee in Bargaining Unit 17 , and related Excluded, Exempt and Statutory Exempt employees, to have their base salary reduced by 3 percent and to receive 5 PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027. Salaries do not reflect the recent changes. Part-time employees are subject to the same conditions as full-time employees, on a prorated basis equivalent to their time-base. Permanent intermittent employees are subject to the same condition as full-time employees, based on the number of hours worked in the pay period.

This is a limited term position which may be extended or become permanent.

Individuals who are eligible for a Training and Development assignment may also be considered for this position.
