Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Utilizes the nursing process as the basis for nursing care.
Provides patient care relative to operating room nursing practice.
Performs nursing functions, applying professional skills; pre-operative; intra-operative; post-operative.
Documents and maintains data on patient’s record.
Maintains safe environment, equipment, supplies, asepsis.
Applies basic teaching/learning concepts to patient education.
Provides for life support.
Acts as a patient advocate.
Cooperates as a member of the nursing unit, department and overall hospital team.
Participates in performance improvement.
Delegates and/or supervises aspects of care to team members and reviews completion.
Performs related work as required.
Communicates pertinent data to appropriate parties.
Maintains patient confidentiality.
Conducts himself/herself effectively in stressful situations.
Approaches situations with distressed patients, families, and visitors in a calm, professional manner.
Collaborates with physicians and nurses to devise individualized care plans for patients.
Properly assesses and manages patient populations with appropriate intervention.
Administers intravenous medications and/or parenteral nutrition.
Administers blood products and evaluates patient response.
Education
Associate's degree in nursing required. Bachelor's degree from accredited school of Nursing preferred.
Certification / License
Louisiana RN license required. CPR required. ACLS and PALS preferred.
Additional Experience Preferred
One year of RN experience preferred.
Current knowledge of clinical practice.
Ability to operate and handle many kinds of complex equipment.
Ability to demonstrate clinical competence and maintain current knowledge in caring for adolescent through geriatric patients.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Knowledge of theory, principles, techniques, and practice of professional nursing; of scientific principles and nursing research; of preparation, administration, and actions of medications; of treatments and medical procedures; of counseling and teaching techniques; of medical equipment as it relates to patient care.
NRP certification preferred.
