Description:

The Department of Classics at the University of Tennessee has been authorized to invite applications for a full-time, non‑tenure‑track position at the rank of Teaching Assistant Professor beginning in the 2026‑2027 academic year. Primary responsibilities will be teaching introductory and intermediate Latin and Greek at all levels, Greek history, and Roman law. Teaching load is 12 hours per semester or 24 hours per academic year.

Qualifications
A Ph.D. in Classics or a closely related field is required at commencement of appointment on August 1, 2026. Also required is demonstrated excellence in teaching classical languages and an ability to teach Greek history and Roman law at the upper‑division level, as well as to contribute to our departmental curriculum of large and small courses in classical civilization, literature, or mythology. An ability to teach large lecture courses (ca. 150–200 students) is desirable.
