
Quality Laboratory Technician

Overview
The Analytical QC Chemist plays an essential role in ensuring the quality and safety of sweeteners, corn syrups, and sugar products. Working primarily with these products, the chemist contributes to the Quality Assurance/Quality Control functions by performing extractions and wetmills, which involve working with liquid products. The role involves both chemistry and microbiology work in a laboratory setting.
Responsibilities
Analyze final product and in-process samples using advanced instrumentation: HPLC, GC, AA, FT-IR, NIR, Karl Fischer, and more
Perform wet chemistry techniques, extractions, and “wetmills” on liquid products
Conduct microbiological testing, pH analysis, refractive index, particle size distribution, and spectrophotometric methods
Post results into data systems and communicate findings to plant personnel
Identify abnormal results and collaborate with process teams to resolve issues
Perform QA/QC checks on outbound shipments and document results
Maintain lab equipment and follow established methodologies
Support cross-functional teams with analytical and project-based tasks
Adhere to company policies, safety protocols, and core values
Participate in skill block training to advance lab technician levels and compensation
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, or related scientific discipline
Familiarity with lab instrumentation and methodologies (experience may come from coursework or internships)
Analytical Chemistry experience from academia or industry
Strong attention to detail, troubleshooting ability, and self-motivation
Excellent communication skills and ability to multitask
Proficiency in Microsoft Office; SAP experience is a plus
Preferred Skills
Experience with titrations, wet chemistry, viscosity testing, microbiology
Understanding of GMP standards and quality control procedures
Work Environment
Comfortable standing for extended periods
Casual dress code: jeans and t-shirt acceptable
