Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the Ultrasound Manager and Lead Ultrasound Technologist, the Ultrasound Technologist generates diagnostic sonographic images for radiologists while implementing necessary policies and procedures. The role supports the department’s mission through interactions with staff, the manager, and other teams.

Schedule: Full Time – Monday to Friday, 7:45 am to 4:15 pm.

Essential Responsibilities

Perform a wide variety of ultrasound exams required for departmental workflow.

Assist physicians during sterile invasive procedures such as biopsies, aspirations, thoracenteses, and intraoperative imaging.

Prepare exam rooms and equipment in accordance with infection control, sterilization, and patient safety protocols.

Complete exams in a timely manner while ensuring high‑quality scans for radiology and outside departments.

Prepare patients for exams, maintaining comfort and modesty at all times.

Ensure patient safety throughout the sonographic exam and use proper positioning to prevent injuries.

Cover the department as needed, including on any campus and during outside shifts as directed by the Manager or Lead Technologist.

Follow departmental policies and procedures, including high‑level disinfection and safety protocols.

Perform patient‑focused customer service and communicate in a manner appropriate to the patient’s understanding.

Handle telephone calls and service requests professionally via phone or other means.

Document exam limitations and maintain accurate requisitions, procedural records, and billing information.

Operate all electronic systems such as PACS, RIS, Epic, and others as required.

Adhere to BMC’s RESPECT behavioral standards and maintain confidentiality of patient discussions.

Assume other duties as assigned or required.

Education and Credentials

Associate’s degree (or equivalent) in diagnostic medical sonography from a two‑year college.

American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) accreditation – OB, AB, or RVT.

Accreditation must be attained prior to hire except for OB/GYN, which allows one year to obtain accreditation.

Qualifications

Experience in a related clinical area is preferred.

Knowledge of ultrasound principles, equipment operation, and maintenance.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with patients, colleagues, and physicians.

Ability to work flexible hours, including overtime and 24/7 coverage as sometimes required.

Special Working Conditions
The ultrasound department requires 24/7 coverage, so staff may be mandated to work overtime or cover other shifts beyond their regular schedule.

Compensation
$48.90 – $62.03 per hour, commensurate with education, experience, and certifications. Additional benefits include medical, dental, vision, pharmacy coverage, retirement savings match, paid time off, and professional development opportunities.
