New England Cancer Specialists (NECS) is currently seeking a

full‑time

40‑hour / 5 day

Certified Medical Assistant

to join our

Lewiston, ME

location. The Certified Medical Assistant will provide topline care to a wide variety of patients dealing with cancer and blood disorders. Duties include rooming patients, taking patient vitals, completing a review of symptoms forms, reviewing medications, assisting in the infusion center, and phlebotomy. The Certified Medical Assistant will work within a team of professionals including a physician, APP, primary nurse navigator, and a patient care coordinator.

NECS is a private medical practice composed of 18 oncologists and hematologists serving the region from six separate locations in Maine and New Hampshire. Job Duties

Responsible for the setup of examination rooms including preparing the room, ordering/stocking supplies, and maintaining cleanliness.

Professionally greet and room patients for their appointment, obtaining vital signs, including height, weight, BP, and pulse.

Use professional judgment in disclosing information obtained from clients and operate under HIPAA guidelines.

Complete, record, and report abnormally high or low vitals to the appropriate clinical provider for immediate intervention.

Complete medication and allergy reconciliation documenting in EMR.

Assist patient with and enter information into the EMR: ROS form, pain assessments, fatigue assessment, and depression screening.

Complete lab and draw blood specimens when needed.

May assist physicians and advanced practicing providers with examinations and procedures including bone marrow biopsy, lumbar puncture, thoracentesis, paracentesis, and intrathecal (OMAYA) procedures.

Independently perform EKGs as ordered by the provider.

Follow established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, as well as safety, environmental, and infection control standards.

May perform administrative duties to include, but are not limited to, basic phone triage and scheduling appointments and procedures, scanning, faxing, filing, prior authorizations, PMP reporting, oral adherence calls, preparing, organizing, and requesting patient records for EMRs as needed.

Work Week
Monday – Friday, no late nights.

Travel
Periodic travel to other NECS Clinic sites may be needed for coverage purposes.

Required Experience

A degree or certificate in Medical Assisting from an accredited school is required.

You must have one of the following credentials or be able to obtain one within 90 days of hire:
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from the AAMA, American Association of Medical Assistants

Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from AMT, American Medical Technologists

Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) from NHA, National Health Career Association

National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) from NCCT, National Center for Competency Testing

Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from ARMA, American Registry of Medical Assistants

National registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) from the NAHP, National Association of Health Professionals

2+ years of experience as a Medical Assistant performing clinical and administrative tasks is preferred; however we are willing to train dedicated newcomers who have met the degree/certificate and can meet the national certification requirements listed above.

Experience with insurance prior authorizations, medication refills, and preparing charts is required.

Active BLS card is preferred.

Experience with and the ability to understand patient medical records, physician's orders, and medical orders is required.

Understand and conduct yourself per accepted clinical standards and maintain strict HIPAA compliance.

A high level of oral and written communication skills and typing skills are required.

Must be adaptable to being in front of patients or able to work at workstations outside the clinic.
