Career Opportunity
Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada is seeking a Lab Assistant for the Henderson area. The role involves accurately performing specimen analysis, instrument maintenance, and quality control procedures for moderate to high complexity laboratory tests. You will work in a fast‑paced, high‑volume oncology practice with some of the best physicians in their fields while providing care to patients in a successful healthcare organization.

Scope
Under direct supervision, the assistant is responsible for collecting and processing patient specimens, documenting results according to established procedures. The assistant assists with specimen analysis, instrument maintenance, and quality control procedures as indicated, follows quality assurance and safety policies, assists with patient flow, properly identifies patients, draws blood samples, and sends them to the laboratory for analysis. The assistant maintains collection areas and equipment, performs record‑keeping, works within defined SOPs, and adheres to quality guidelines.

Responsibilities

Collect appropriate specimens from patients as ordered.

Maintain documentation as described by the quality assurance program including accessioning logs, test report logs, quality control logs, equipment records, and checklists.

Perform specimen analysis of all chemistry, hematology, and immunology specimens as directed.

Maintain adequate inventory of supplies and ensure all supplies are viable before use in patient testing.

Prep patients as necessary (e.g., taking vital signs).

Assist with testing procedures according to procedure guidelines.

Sends specimens to reference laboratories for any testing not performed in‑house, processes incoming orders for lab testing, processes in‑house and incoming results for charting, and charts patient results promptly.

Update and file all daily paperwork, lab logs, and maintenance logs.

Arrange for transfusion of blood products when ordered by a physician; operate designated laboratory equipment as directed.

Use equipment effectively, skillfully, and efficiently; maintain equipment and work area as directed; perform testing under CLIA guidelines for personnel.

Perform daily, weekly, and monthly instrument maintenance as indicated; record proper lot numbers of all controls, calibrators, and reagents.

Identify troubleshooting procedures and call technical services as needed; implement and comply with safety and quality assurance standards.

Comply with regulatory agency standards; adhere to all OSHA compliance laws and Universal Precaution procedures.

Properly dispose of hazardous materials; maintain a clean working environment and restock the laboratory area as needed.

Perform phlebotomy and sample collection procedures as needed.

Maintain confidentiality of all information related to patients and medical staff.

Perform CLIA waived or moderately complex testing under close supervision.

Qualifications

High School diploma or equivalent required.

0–5 (plus) years of experience.

Physical Demands
Physical demands of this job include a full range of body motion, manual and finger dexterity, eye‑hand coordination, and the ability to sit/stand for extended periods while using hands. Occasional lifting and carrying up to 40 lbs. is required. Corrected vision, color perception, and hearing to a normal range are necessary. Requires legible handwriting.

Work Environment
This role requires exposure to direct contact with patients, including potential contact with blood/body fluids, chemotherapeutic agents, or transmissible infections. You will also handle corrosive chemicals, infectious agents, glassware, needles, and open flames. Reasonable accommodations will be offered to employees with disabilities.
