Scope of Position
The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center’s mission is to improve health in Ohio and across the world through innovation in research, education, and patient care. The team provides patient care and supportive services directed towards achievement of positive patient care outcomes, maximizing the patient’s involvement in his/her own plan of care and reducing the length of hospitalization. The nurse plays a critical role in the education and supervision of students in the clinical setting, in addition to staff engagement, patient experience, quality and safety, and cost‑effective care.
Position Summary
This role will function as a clinical nurse and student educator, dividing responsibilities between providing direct patient care, leading nursing care provided by other members of the patient care team, supervising student patient care delivery, and teaching and evaluating nursing techniques of students. The role also includes assessing, planning, implementing, coordinating, delegating, and evaluating nursing care of patients in alignment with the professional practice model. Approximately 67% of the time is dedicated to direct nursing responsibilities and 33% to clinical instruction for nursing students. In the clinical capacity, the nurse delivers high‑quality, evidence‑based care, collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal outcomes, and participates in quality improvement initiatives. As a clinical instructor, the nurse mentors and supervises students in real‑time clinical settings, fostering growth through hands‑on teaching, feedback, and evaluation, and ensuring students meet clinical competencies.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Nursing from a CCNE (Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education) or an ACEN‑accredited nursing program.
Doctoral degree or current enrollment in a doctoral program preferred.
Current Ohio RN license or interim permit.
Ohio APRN license required for advanced practice registered nurses.
Two years of RN experience in a relevant care setting required; five years preferred.
