Job Summary
We are currently seeking Sr. Lab Technicians to join the Life Sciences Research organization at Battelle at our headquarters on King Avenue, with eventual base location at the laboratory space in West Jefferson, OH. For over 40 years, commercial and government clients have counted on Battelle’s Life Science Research expertise and facilities to protect human health by providing an end-to-end partner to conduct research, formulation, development, testing and validation of the vaccines, instrument development, therapeutics, and assays to meet a diverse selection of applications. From disease testing and screening, supporting research into the evolution and transmission of infectious agents, and furthering advances into precision medicine. The selected candidates will apply job skills and applicable policies and procedures to complete a variety of tasks. Sr. Lab Technicians clearly communicate routine research procedures and results for contribution to reports, and execute and document routine laboratory workflows – including standard cell culture, nucleic acid isolation, PCR, sequencing support, high-content imaging (e.g. confocal), and plate-based assays – in accordance with SOPs and quality standards. Ownership of these procedures will increase lab throughput and free scientific staff to focus on advanced cell culture and complex experimental design.
Responsibilities
Execute and document routine laboratory workflows including standard cell culture, nucleic acid isolation, PCR, sequencing, high content imaging (e.g. confocal), plate-based assays and other lab-oriented tasks.
Work on assignments that are moderately complex in nature where judgment is required in assessing problems and making recommendations.
Provide input to Project Manager on time and staff resources. Train and guide less experienced staff on specific tasks. Provide input on performance reviews, as requested.
Perform non-routine analysis to verify the accuracy, applicability and reasonableness of project work. May assist in identifying ways to control and/or reduce fixed costs without negatively impacting client expectations. May assist in the technical planning and has some discretion when making judgments and completing tasks. Is encouraged to make recommendations such as estimating time requirements for the completion of tasks and/or providing solutions to technical problems.
Work under general supervision and instruction of more experienced staff. Report observations/problems clearly and concisely, recognizing and highlighting specific deviations.
Key Qualifications
Associate’s degree in Biology, Environmental Sciences or related field; 3 years of applicable experience; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience in a related field.
May be expected to pursue various certifications or continuing educational units, as needed.
Demonstrates the ability to perform assignments that may not be standardized in nature.
Exhibits technical knowledge to perform moderately complex assignments.
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding behind application by beginning to troubleshoot and interpret results.
Conducts specified non-routine analysis of data and prepares data for written reports.
Uses established outlines for documenting results for inclusion in technical reports.
Applicant must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain government security clearance.
