Job Summary
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides professional nursing care for residents of all ages in long‑term care, under the supervision of a registered nurse, advanced practice provider, or physician. The LPN demonstrates knowledge of nursing principles for the resident in the relevant clinical setting, practices within the full scope of nursing expertise, and utilizes appropriate age‑and‑population‑specific standards related to the physical and psychosocial needs of the resident as per the care plan. The LPN performs testing to evaluate data reflective of the resident’s status, provides the care needed, recognizes problems, recommends solutions, and responds effectively to assist in emergent situations. The LPN ensures the health, comfort, and safety of residents, contributes to their assessment, administers medications or treatments as ordered, provides technical support to healthcare professionals, documents resident interactions and outcomes, maintains effective working relationships with residents, healthcare providers, and the public, and works effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary care team. The LPN communicates clearly, maintains confidentiality, counsels residents and families on prevention and treatment plans, and performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Graduate from an accredited practical nursing program as a Licensed Practical Nurse; associate degree in practical nursing preferred.

If the position requires IV therapy/management skills, graduation from a Board‑approved AASPN program with IV therapy in the curriculum or completion of an IV Therapy course approved by the North Dakota Board of Nursing.

Have attended a pre‑licensure nursing program that included supervised clinical experience across the lifespan or have a minimum of 400 hours of LPN experience at another facility.

Currently hold an unencumbered Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license with the State Nursing Board and/or possess multi‑state licensure privileges.

Obtain and maintain required department‑specific competencies and certifications, including required annual continuing education units (CEU) and competency training.
