Position Overview
Bengal Transportation Services is hiring a
Senior Trailer Mechanic
to support our shop operations. This role is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining trailers to ensure safety, reliability, and full DOT compliance.
We are looking for a
high-level mechanic with strong trailer rebuild and repair experience
who can work independently and keep equipment moving.
Key Responsibilities
Perform
preventative maintenance and inspections
on dry van, flatbed, and specialty trailers
Diagnose and repair
mechanical, electrical, air, and structural systems
Repair/replace:
Brakes, hubs, drums, bearings, seals
Suspension components and air systems
Landing gear, doors, roofs, and flooring
Inspect and repair
12V electrical and ABS systems
Perform
tire service
(repair, replacement, rotation, torqueing)
Conduct and document
DOT inspections
Complete
minor welding and fabrication
as needed
Maintain accurate
work orders and documentation
Ensure a
safe, clean, and organized shop environment
Communicate repair status and safety concerns to leadership
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or GED
5–10+ years of trailer repair/rebuild experience (preferred)
Strong knowledge of:
Trailer brake systems
Suspension and structural components
Electrical and ABS systems
Experience with
tools, lifts, and shop equipment
Ability to read and interpret
work orders and inspection reports
Valid driver's license ( MVR required – heavy truck classification )
Ability to pass:
Drug screen
DOT physical
Physically capable of lifting, bending, climbing, and working in shop conditions
Preferred Qualifications
Technical school certification (diesel/truck/trailer repair)
Experience with
DOT inspections & FHWA out-of-service criteria
Welding and fabrication experience
Experience with
liftgates or specialized trailer systems
Schedule & Work Conditions
Day shift – 5 days/week (8-hour shifts)
Overtime
as required / based on workload
Work performed in shop and occasional outdoor yard conditions
Exposure to noise, equipment, and weather conditions
