Job Description:
Responsible for providing high-quality pharmaceutical care to patients of the specialty pharmacy. Additionally, this role reviews prescriptions for accuracy and takes steps for clarification or correction if necessary. In addition, this position monitors daily workflow, collaborates with the specialty pharmacy team to meet production goals, and ensures proper medication, supplies, delivery, and follow-up. This role communicates with patients and physicians regarding drug interactions, medication identification, sensitivities, allergies, and safety issues.
The specialty pharmacist monitors daily workflow and works with specialty pharmacy team to meet production goals and complete specialty prescriptions.
Provides clinical services through a patient management program to support optimal patient care and outcomes.
Assures that medication, supplies, delivery, and follow-up are done appropriately.
Communicates with the patient/physician as needed regarding drug interactions, medication identification, sensitivities, allergies, and all issues regarding safety and wellbeing of the patient.
Oversees specialty department staff by following standard operating procedures for receiving, filling, dispensing, logging, and maintaining loss prevention controls.
Supervises prescription processing to ensure medications and supplies are dispensed according to regulatory requirements and shipped to the appropriate address.
Utilizes most current Specialty Plan Prior Authorization (PA) criteria to facilitate new PA requests and PA renewals as necessary.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to communicate to physician or office personnel regarding prescription issues or benefit related issues in a professional manner. [Required]
Displays superior customer service skills and acts as a role model when communicating with partners, clients, patients or physician’s office personnel on the phone and must be able to retain composure under pressure to achieve positive outcomes. [Required]
Understanding of evidenced based medicine, advanced pharmacy practice, and patient based care. [Required]
Good working knowledge of pharmacy laws and Rx Plus Pharmacy processes. [Required]
Good decision-making skills, including expert problem-solving skills, problem analysis, and discernment under pressure. [Required]
Ability to develop and leverage relationships within and across work groups to achieve results. [Required]
Ability to supervise pharmacy technician personnel. [Required]
Effectively manages one's time and resources to ensure that work is completed efficiently. [Required]
Flexibility and willingness to adapt to change as necessary. [Required]
Intermediate to advanced skill set in MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. [Required]
Bilingual [Preferred]
Education:
Bachelor's [Required]
Field of Study:
Pharmacy, Doctor of Pharmacy, or other advanced pharmacy degree
Work Experience:
1+ advanced pharmacy residency (pgy-2) or fellowship experience. [Preferred]
3+ years professional experience in pharmacy setting or a pharmacy practice residency (pgy-1) [Required]
Licenses and Certifications:
Licensed Pharmacist (RPH) [Required]
