Nursing Instructor
Full‑time, 9‑month academic year contract (August 16 – May 15) teaching the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) at Mountain Gateway Community College Main Campus, Alleghany - 005.

Key Responsibilities

Provide classroom instruction for assigned courses.

Develop, implement, and evaluate the nursing education program’s philosophy and objectives.

Design, implement, teach, evaluate, and revise curriculum in collaboration with the Nursing Program Head.

Conduct student conferences and submit grades and required information to the Student Information System by established deadlines.

Serve on standing committees as needed.

Maintain course outlines and curricula for all courses.

Support student recruitment, retention, and engagement activities.

Enforce student compliance with written policies governing nursing practice in clinical facilities.

Participate in evaluating new equipment, teaching materials, and strategies to improve student learning.

Clinical Faculty Duties

Coordinate clinical rotation plans with the Program Head, including assignment of agencies and students.

Attend orientation at each clinical facility with the student group.

Select patient assignments and learning experiences, providing them to students prior to the clinical experience.

Review clinical objectives with students.

Conduct pre‑ and post‑clinical conferences.

Assist students in integrating classroom knowledge into clinical practice.

Supervise and guide students using the nursing process for assigned patients.

Review, correct, and comment on care plans and other written clinical assignments.

Record student progress and provide feedback at the end of each rotation.

Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with clinical agency staff.

Report student problems or concerns to the Program Head.

Maintain a record of student clinical absences and report to the Coordinator.

Perform additional duties as assigned.

Teach classes on the main campus and at the Rockbridge Regional Center.

Special Assignments
May be required to assist the agency or state government in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

Required Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution, or a BSN with substantial nursing experience and a written plan for obtaining a Master’s Degree.

Active registered nurse license in Virginia (or multistate licensure privilege). Unencumbered license required.

Effective oral and written communication skills.

Excellent computer skills, including the use of classroom technology.

Knowledge of current nursing education issues and trends.

Experience in classroom teaching at the registered nurse level and supervision of students in clinical training.

Experience working with diverse student populations.

Demonstrated ability to inspire and facilitate learning.

Willingness to travel for clinical duties and professional development as required.
