Minimum Requirements
Possession of a valid New York State Registered Professional Nursing (RN) license or valid New York State Licensed Professional Nursing (LPN) license.
Desired Qualifications
Working knowledge of practical nursing techniques.
Ability to work with elementary students, staff and parents.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Good judgment.
Ability to accurately record and report health/medical information.
Ability to understand and carry out detailed oral and written instructions.
Daily attendance is expected.
Position Summary / Responsibilities
Performs medical and/or emergency treatments of injuries and illness of students and staff as required; dispenses medications as needed.
Care for disturbed and restless students.
Attend to physical needs such as toileting, feeding, and lifting.
Assist the School RN with daily triage of students with chronic and minor health concerns and communicate health concerns to parents as needed.
Maintain awareness of student status, recognizing and reporting adverse signs; communicate and collaborate with members of the health care team.
Assume responsibility for an assigned office in the absence of the school nurse, under the direction of the District Medical Director.
Participate in departmental and interdisciplinary committees as assigned.
Maintain professional competence through participation in continuing education and other appropriate learning experiences.
Record information on student health records, accident reports and sports eligibility forms.
Assist with inventory of supplies.
Extra hours may be required.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
