Job Summary

Geisinger is proud to offer a Patient Care Technician a $1500 sign‑on bonus for eligible candidates, $18.94 minimum hiring rate with increased rates for experienced individuals and up to $3 shift differentials for evening, nights, and weekend shifts. We also offer up to $40,000 in financial support to become a nurse. The position is located in a newly renovated, state‑of‑the‑art adult Advanced Acute Care Medical (BP2) unit. This 20‑bed unit features private rooms equipped with the latest technology to support both exceptional patient care and staff efficiency. You will be supported by a visible and engaged leadership team, including an Operations Manager, Clinical Team Coordinator, and Nurse Educator, who are committed to your growth and success.
Job Duties

The BP2 unit operates under the ACE Nursing Model of Care (Achieving Collaborative Excellence) and utilizes more Patient Care Technician staff to perform duties that do not require a nursing license. This model allows technicians more opportunity for career advancement, autonomy in their role, and greater involvement in patient care.
Primary Duties Include

Being the primary facilitator of ADLs: hygiene, toileting, mobility, meals
Collecting vital signs & daily weights
Conducting Point of Care testing
Turning & repositioning patients
Performing equipment checks & exchanges
Dressing care
Removal of Foley catheter and peripheral IV
Nasogastric tube removal and performing nasal swabs
Checking code carts and oxygen storage cabinets

Job Description

May perform a wide variety of advanced patient care duties under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Responsibilities include maintaining the patient care environment consistent with policies, procedures, and practices, and providing care for patients in the specific age range on the assigned clinical area.
Provides enhanced patient care under the direction of the licensed nurse, which may include but is not limited to advanced dressing care, suctioning, removal of Foley catheter and peripheral IV.
May perform venipunctures and skin punctures to obtain blood specimens according to CLIA guidelines.
May perform daily, hands‑on aspects of the storage, preparation and delivery of breast milk, infant and pediatric formulas.
Documents in the appropriate sections to create a complete and accurate medical record.
Identifies, observes, and documents the physical needs of the patient according to established standards, and reports any changes in patient condition to licensed personnel in a timely manner.
Obtains and maintains the integrity of specimens in accordance with policy and procedure, according to physician order.
Provides for or assists patients with activities of daily living and fulfills designated and delegated responsibilities for ongoing continuum of care, including patient hygiene and changing linens.
Provides one‑to‑one patient safety watch as assigned following established policies and procedures.
Accurately processes specimens and provides timely transport of the specimen to the laboratory.
Performs point‑of‑care patient testing and point‑of‑care instrument maintenance and quality control.
Assists in problem‑solving, troubleshooting and taking corrective measures in care and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
Serves as a preceptor and mentor for new staff and students in a positive manner.
Performs clerical duties for admissions, transfers, discharges, and deaths according to standards and facilitates patient throughput activities, transcribes and processes orders according to unit standard.
Releases and confirms ordered tests to appropriate departments.
Coordinates transportation of patients to multiple tests.
Participates in obtaining and communicating electronic information as pertinent to the nursing unit, schedules tests, faxes consults, etc.
Assists in ordering supplies, stationery items as well as floor stock, patient needs, individual nursing supplies.
Communicates with food services to ensure appropriate patient diets.
Operates, problem‑solves, and takes corrective measures for clerical equipment, including maintaining computers, fax machines, phones, etc.
Assists with transporting non‑controlled medications to and from pharmacy and within the unit as needed.
Assists with transporting blood products to and from Blood Bank as needed.
Discharge follow‑up phone calls / coordinating virtual discharge appointment team.
Supports / assists staff with 5‑min drills and/or quality rounds – participates in regulatory readiness as needed.
Position Details

BP2 Advanced Acute Care Medical
Schedule: Three 12‑hour day shifts (7:00 am – 7:30 pm) including every other weekend and holiday.
Required Orientation: A two‑week classroom orientation, Monday–Friday, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm.
No experience needed. Comprehensive on‑the‑job training provided.
Education

High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) – required.
