Research Assistant I - Department of Medicine
The first level in the Research Assistant Series. Provides laboratory and technical support to senior technical and professional staff and solves less complex problems in carrying out research projects in a laboratory environment. Works in support of Dr. Kathleen Pratt's laboratory in the Department of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, MD. Research focuses on mechanisms for hemostasis. Primary laboratory techniques include gel electrophoresis, Western blotting, and ELISA assays to characterize blood patterns.
Responsibilities
Perform research projects, including data collection and organization, following standard operating procedures.
Enter data accurately, timely, and efficiently.
Maintain clear and accurate data collection records, inventories, and logbooks in accordance with Good Clinical and/or Good Laboratory practices.
Create, collect, disseminate, and maintain appropriate study data.
Assist in preparation of technical reports, summaries, and protocols.
Create and communicate detailed observations on experiments.
Perform basic data analysis and interpretation of experimental results.
Attend required training and participate in related activities as directed by the supervisor.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree in immunology or a related field.
0–2 years of related experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Willingness to work with cells, tissues, and body fluids from humans and animals (mice and nonhuman primates).
Knowledge of standard laboratory techniques.
Experience in cell culture and preferred techniques in immunology.
Ability to follow detailed instructions.
Good communication and analytical skills.
Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background clearance.
Physical Capabilities
Can lift materials up to 10 lbs.
Can stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.
Can climb, pull, and lift heavy objects.
Primarily works in a laboratory setting.
Compensation
Hourly pay range: $18.25 – $20.00; actual pay will be based on experience, education, and other factors.
