Your Role on the Team
The Nurse Practitioner Per Diem in the Department of Medicine, Division of Hospital Medicine & Palliative Medicine, is an independent yet team‑oriented professional who participates in the comprehensive care of patients in ambulatory or inpatient settings, providing multidisciplinary care coordination, treatment, education, monitoring, and communication with patients and referring physicians.
Responsibilities
Functions as appropriate to scope of practice, including management of chronic stable medical conditions, routine care, acute or critical care, and medical and surgical procedures per approved procedures.
Provides patient care across age groups and clinical settings as per educational preparation, within health licensed settings and affiliates.
Ensures standards of care for the specified patient population and documents evidence of self‑direction and accountability.
Is credentialed to practice and holds privileges through Medical Staff to function in the clinical role; credentialing and privilege approval completed prior to first work day.
Accountable to supervising physicians, physician designees, or administrative manager and receives feedback.

Diplomacy and flexibility in interacting with physicians, nurses, other paramedical personnel, administrators, emergency and law‑enforcement officers.
Customer service skills appropriate to the job.
Skill to clearly communicate medical information in person and by telephone.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Writing skills to prepare clear medical reports, laboratory data and progress notes; maintains appropriate work pace.
Must possess essential skills, knowledge, and ability for assigned duties.
Ability to be trained in specialized medical equipment and procedures.
Understanding and adherence to privacy, confidentiality, and security policies for PHI.
Current, active, unrestricted California Registered Nurse license.
Current, active, unrestricted California Nurse Practitioner license.
Current, active, unrestricted Furnishing license and DEA registration.
Active National Provider Identifier (NPI).
NP National Board Certification (AGACNP or ACNP).
Current BLS certification.
Current ACLS certification.
Educational training and/or experience supporting setting and patient population.
Preferred
Multilingual.
Special Conditions
Ability to obtain UCIMC Allied Health Professional Privileges prior to hire.
