The Medical/Surgical LPNs play a key role in providing the highest quality of patient care while the patient is at Union Health. 5E provides care for patients after general surgery and also provides care for cancer patients undergoing treatment or experiencing diagnosis-related concerns.

This unit is led by Nursing Director, Ashley Morgan, and Nursing Care Manager, Sydney Caldwell.
Essential and valuable nursing skills gained on this unit

Care of the surgical patient post-operative to discharge
Wound vac and wound care
Foley insertion and care of CBI
Nasogastric tube insertion and maintenance
Ostomy care and teaching
Chest tube care and maintenance
JP and Accordion drain care and maintenance
Unit Culture

Preceptor support
LPN job details

Collaborates with the physician or manager to determine needs of patients
Completes the routine physical assessment using common assessment skills in a systematic manner
Respects patients' rights, including the right to information, privacy, confidentiality, and the right to refuse care
Assists with patient education to promote self-care and patient independence
Follows company policies and procedures and department protocols
Assists the physician with special procedures
Qualifications

Graduate from an accredited PN program
Must have Indiana LPN license
Previous LPN experience preferred but not required
Licensing and Certification

BLS certification
Indiana RN license
