Job Description
Phlebotomist II is responsible for accurate collection and handling of patient laboratory specimens for diagnostic testing according to established best practice, ensuring patient and caregiver engagement.
Posting Specifics
Hours: PRN (As Needed)
Benefits Eligible: No
Shift Details: Variable shifts between 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.; 8‑hour shifts, possible variation.
May support clinics open Saturdays 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Site location: Multiple clinic sites; travel required; mileage reimbursement applies.
Essential Functions
Accurately collect patient specimens for diagnostic testing in fast‑paced hospital and clinic settings.
Use venipuncture, capillary puncture, PIVO, and throat swab techniques for all patient acuities, including outpatient, ED, inpatient, newborns, and ICU.
Adhere to laboratory compliance and safety regulations and personal protective equipment standards (gowns, gloves, face shields, masks).
Communicate procedures and instructions to patients and family members with empathy.
Undertake patient or client registrations when needed.
Participate in code response teams, clinical coaching or preceptor roles, specimen processing, special projects, quality‑assurance and continuity‑improvement projects, waived testing, technical writing, downtime planning, and other laboratory responsibilities as assigned.
Organize and manage multiple computer systems, maintain a clean and safe environment, work independently and as a team member, and remain resilient under stress.
Take on‑call shifts and holiday rotations as required.
Apply advanced collection and troubleshooting techniques such as bilateral nares or non‑standard kit collection.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
At least 12 months experience in phlebotomy, training, or national certification (RPT, PBT, ASCP, etc.) approved by management.
Physical Requirements
Vision, hearing, fine manual dexterity for equipment handling and computer use.
Ability to lift, transfer, and move patients and supplies of varying weights, push or pull gurneys and portable equipment; stand for extended periods.
May need to drive a vehicle if required.
