Position Summary
Responsible for various environmental investigation, permitting, and impact analyses projects, applying knowledge of ecological and environmental practices and regulations.
Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g. H1B, F-1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT) is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.
Essential Functions And Responsibilities
Conduct research of designated environmental resources including wetlands, streams, soils, plants, and wildlife
Collect data and field samples during field investigations
Analyze and manage data received from field investigations; determine the location, size, condition, and impacts to designated environmental resources
Document methodologies and findings of research and field investigations
Assist in Traffic Noise Analysis and modeling
Assist with geomorphic surveys and design efforts in support of ecological restoration projects
Assist in species‑specific surveys in a variety of terrestrial and aquatic habitats (freshwater mussels, avifauna, herps, reptiles, fish, invertebrates, ect.) under the supervision of permitted biologists
Assist with wetland and stream functional and conditional assessments using USACE‑approved methods (Level I and II Stream Condition Assessments, iHGM, TxRAM, ect.)
Participate in environmental compliance surveys (e.g., stormwater management facilities, erosion and sediment control procedures, design/build projects, etc.) and Phase I Environmental Site Assessments
Write natural environmental technical reports, field delineation reports, impact assessments, environmental inspection reports, and similar reports with supervisory input and oversight
Assist and/or manage with supervisory oversight various state, federal, and local regulatory permit application processes, such as Clean Water Act Section 404/401, Endangered Species Act Section 7 & 10 Consultation, NPDES, Texas General Land Office Submerged Lands, etc.
Assist in the preparation of scopes of work, fee proposals, and responses to RFP’s
Nonessential Functions And Responsibilities
Participate in field investigations of cultural resources
Participate in preparation of public involvement materials and attend public meetings
Support preparation of NEPA documents, including writing environmental setting and impact analyses sections
Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Powerpoint and familiarity with GIS programs
Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening
Required Experience
Bachelor’s degree in natural resource management, environmental or natural science, biology, geography, planning, ecology, or a related field
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and familiarity with GIS programs
Preferred Experience
Experience with wetland/stream delineation and impact assessment, wildlife surveys & consultation, data collection and analysis, report writing, and editing
Knowledge of NEPA regulations and requirements including, at minimum, 40 CFR 1500-1508
Experience with regulatory permitting
Advanced wetland delineation and/or hydric soils training
Local professional certifications (for example, Forest Conservation Act “Qualified Professional” certification in Maryland, Stormwater, and/or Erosion & Sediment Control Inspection, etc.)
Working Conditions
Work is performed within a general office environment approximately 60% of the time. Office work is generally sedentary in nature but may require occasional standing and walking. Office work is performed with adequate lighting and temperature, with no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc.
Field work is required approximately 40% of the time and is conducted outdoors in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Field work will require walking and carrying field equipment over typical outdoor terrain. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs.) may be required as needed.
