Addiction Counselor – West Central Behavioral Health Clinic, Bismarck, North Dakota

Be part of the solution to the behavioral health crisis. As a team member for the North Dakota Department of Health & Human Services, you will ensure that the most vulnerable have access to a high‑quality healthcare system in which prevention works, treatment is effective, and people recover.
As an Addiction Counselor, you will provide individuals with opportunities for recovery management so they can live and work independently in their home community.
Responsibilities
Complete ASAM Level of Care screenings and assist in developing integrated service plans
Provide individual, family, and group counseling
Provide crisis intervention and risk assessments in the office and in the community
Provide education and consult to families, community members, interns, and residents
Qualifications
To be considered for the Addiction Counselor position, you must have a bachelor’s degree in Addiction Counseling, Addiction Studies, Social Work, Counseling, or Psychology, and current licensure as a Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) by the North Dakota Board of Addiction Counseling Examiners.
We will consider filling an Addiction Tech position at a lower pay rate. Applicants who have completed all but two academic courses required for the addiction counseling field in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program, and who can obtain an addiction counselor license within two years of hire, may be eligible for this role.
This position requires a valid driver’s license and successful completion of the assigned defensive driving course during new‑hire orientation.
Location & Travel
ND HHS utilizes a blended workplace model. This position requires frequent travel to client locations and will provide a state fleet vehicle for use when traveling to clients.
