GENERAL STATEMENT OF POSITION: Under general supervision, performs and/or supervises delivery of health services for all residents; directs and manages staff to ensure the safety and well being of the residents.
REPORTS TO: Clinical Services Director
Responsibilities
Know and understand the vision, purpose, values and goals of Anthem Memory Care.
Assesses health and safety needs of residents; oversees medical care (medications/treatments).
Assures that social model of assisted living is in operation.
Assists with family contact when medical issue is involved and provides information about residents' conditions and discusses alternative actions.
Provides assessment input about residents to the clinical services director.
Participates in the preparation for the Department of Social Services annual inspection.
Assists in development of annual strategic plan goals for the health issues in the resident services department; actively participates in the total strategic plan goals for the resident services department.
Acts as a back-up to the director in his/her absence.
Attends in-service training workshops, educational classes, and meetings.
Responds to emergency situations.
Acts as liaison with doctors and residents.
Conducts work tasks safely and in compliance with the community safety program.
Provides effective and courteous service to all residents, guests and co-workers.
Assists in other departments as needed.
Schedules transportation for residents to appointments if resident is unable.
Performs other related essential duties as required.
Minimum Training and Experience
A High School Diploma, vocational/technical training; at least three years of experience, preferably in a geriatric setting; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
Certification and Clearance Requirements
Medication Tech, CMA, or QMAP certification
Requires First Aid and CPR certification
Criminal record clearance or criminal record exemption, as required by law
Health evaluation to ensure ability to perform duties of the position and the absence of any communicable disease, including tuberculosis and CXR clearance.
Knowledge and Abilities Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
Knowledge of: Policies, procedures, methods, and practices of the community; Medical terminology; Methods and procedures involved in handling emergency situations; Use of medical supplies and equipment; Medication dispensed to residents; Supervisory methods and techniques; Records, graphs, reports, etc. used in the daily performance of duties; Principles and practices of nursing care.
Physical Requirements
Ability to operate automated office machines including computer, calculator, telephone, and copier;
Ability to operate and use a variety of health care equipment and tools including stethoscope, blood pressure cuff, glucometer, oxygen, otoscope, emergency and disaster equipment, etc.;
Ability to utilize a variety of clerical, secretarial, medical and computer supplies;
Must be physically able to exert considerable force occasionally in order to assist residents who have fallen and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects;
Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of residents to position or transport them;
Ability to perceive and discriminate colors, sounds, textures, odors, and forms.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Ability to assign, review, plan, and coordinate the work of other employees;
Ability to provide instruction to other employees;
Ability to recommend the discipline or discharge of other employees.
Mathematical Knowledge
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, calculate decimals and percentages, use college level algebra; Knowledge of and ability to use the metric system for medications.
Judgment and Situational Reasoning
Ability to apply principles of rational systems such as nursing;
Ability to apply principles of influence systems in the training and counseling of personnel;
Ability to use independent judgment and discretion in supervising activities, handling difficult situations, maintaining standards, providing assistance and information.
Language and Interpersonal Communication
Ability to comprehend and correctly use a variety of informational documents including resident records, telephone calls, lab reports, x-rays, attendance records, letters, time sheets, resident reviews, job applications and budgets;
Ability to comprehend a variety of reference books and manuals including PDR, medical books, reports, journals, resident nursing notes, payroll summary and resident review;
Ability to prepare performance appraisals, weekly reports, resident reviews and other job related documents using prescribed format and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction and style;
Ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, maintain confidentiality of restricted information, and to follow instructions;
Ability to use and interpret medical, counseling, marketing, and personnel terminology and language;
Ability to communicate effectively with residents and families, clients, physicians, nurses, staff, resident assistants, supervisor and client representatives verbally and in writing.
Environmental Adaptability
Have ability to work effectively in a community environment.
