Responsibilities
The Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Specialist advances nursing practice by developing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs; fosters professional growth; and ensures nursing competencies meet high standards.
Collaborates with nursing leadership and interdisciplinary teams to provide educational support, drive continuous improvement, and enhance patient care quality through evidence-based practices.
Identifies learning needs of nursing staff and designs effective educational programs, including orientations, continuing education initiatives, and competency assessments aligned with clinical and organizational goals.
Mentors and supports clinical staff, facilitating ongoing professional growth and career development.
Promotes quality improvement initiatives and integrates them into educational offerings to support safe, high-quality patient care.
Specific focus areas may vary by assignment (e.g., general role or clinical specialties such as critical care or telemetry).
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) preferred.
Certification in Nursing Professional Development (NPD-BC) preferred.
Experience
Minimum of 2 years clinical nursing experience in a specialty required.
Minimum of 2 years of experience in nursing education or related field preferred.
Licenses and Certifications
California Registered Nurse (Board of Registered Nursing)
Basic Life Support (American Heart Association)
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (American Heart Association)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Working knowledge of Title XXII and The Joint Commission regulations.
Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, work independently, and meet deadlines.
Proficiency in educational program design, implementation, and evaluation.
Strong knowledge of adult learning principles and instructional design.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills for interaction with staff, leadership, and interdisciplinary teams.
Ability to mentor, coach, and support professional development of nursing staff.
Strong analytical skills to assess learning outcomes and drive improvements.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Learning Management Systems (HealthStream or similar), and other educational tools.
Ages of Patients Served
This position will serve all age groups one year of age or greater.
Salary Range
$93.91 - $122.63 USD per hour
