Animal Care Intern - Carlisle Visitor Center

Overview

The Lorain County Metro Parks is looking for an experienced, motivated, and committed individual to join the Naturalist Department at the Carlisle Visitor Center. The role involves providing quality animal care to wildlife program ambassadors, maintaining an outdoor native plant garden, and supporting subsequent programming. Applicants should have prior experience caring for captive live animals, preferably reptiles and raptors. The internship spans July through December 2026, although the start date may be flexible based on availability.
Terms

Work 32 hours per week with occasional evening, weekend, and holiday shifts as needed.
Pay rate: $12 per hour.
Must work outdoors in all weather conditions and all seasons.
Requirements

Creative, active, and motivated.
Invested in professional care and management of wildlife program ambassador animals and public education regarding local wildlife.
Working knowledge of positive reinforcement training and focus on animal welfare.
Ability to work in a team-oriented environment with staff and volunteers.
Excellent communication skills; effective public speaking preferred.
Ability to work on multiple tasks independently and adapt to change.
Knowledge of basic power tools for exhibit maintenance a plus.
Valid Ohio driver’s license.
Must satisfactorily complete a background check.
Employees must not use tobacco per Lorain County Metropolitan Park District policy.
