Job Summary

Registered professional nurse who assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated shift. Prescribes nursing care based on the nursing process that is consistent with the medical plan of care and input from patient and significant others. Collaborates with physicians and the health care team to coordinate patient care for patients of any age (depending on assigned unit), including neonatal, infant, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric. Incorporates teaching and discharge planning into the plan of care. Delegates certain aspects of patient care delivery to other nursing staff based on competence and scope of practice. This position is represented by CNA.
Job Requirements

Education and Work Experience:
Bachelor\'s Degree in Nursing (BSN): Preferred
Acute care facility experience: Preferred
Licenses/Certifications

Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification: Required
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification: Required
Critical Care: Complete Critical Care Course within 1 year of hire and IV Sedation competency within 6 months of hire: Required
Perinatal: Neonatal Resuscitation within 6 months and Intermediate/Advanced Fetal Monitoring within specified times for Labor & Delivery: Required
Perinatal: Neonatal Resuscitation within 6 months for Obstetrics & NICU depts: Required
PACU/SDS: PALS within 1 year and IV Sedation within 6 months: Required
Emergency Dept: PALS at time of hire, TNCC within 1 year and IV Sedation within 6 months: Required
Interventional Radiology RN: IV Sedation within 6 months: Required
MICN and CEN qualifications for Emergency Dept; PICC competence for Procedures Nurse Interventional Radiology RNs: Preferred
Facility Specific License/Certifications

BLS certification: Required
ACLS: Required
Essential Functions

Utilizes the nursing process to assess patients, design and implement an individualized plan of care, collaborate with disciplines, and evaluate progress; applies pharmacology knowledge in medication administration and IV therapy.
Provides patient/family education, assesses learning needs, and responds to emergencies following protocols; ensures patient safety and communicates observations promptly.
Maintains accountability for problem solving and clinical decisions; ensures continuity of care and appropriate priority setting; advocates for patients.
Demonstrates knowledge of job descriptions and delegates to CNAs and student nurses appropriately; adheres to the California Nurse Practice Act; communicates effectively with patients, families, staff, and physicians.
Documents assessments and interventions; administers medications and IVs; performs emergency procedures (e.g., CPR) as needed; uses equipment safely.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
