FOCUS
Apply a patient‑centered approach while performing treatments, making patient assessments, and all other aspects of patient care. This role promotes learning and growth as an emergency veterinary technician, with advancement possibilities toward a Veterinary Technician Specialist certification.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO DO

Treat patients and customers with compassion and care.

Perform basic‑to‑intermediate nursing care tasks, patient monitoring, and treatments.

Accurately triage incoming patients using assessment and monitoring parameters.

Administer subcutaneous, intramuscular, and intravenous medications, and manage potential adverse effects.

Set up, monitor, and administer intravenous fluid therapy including constant rate infusions and blood transfusions.

Contribute to incoming outpatient care and ongoing inpatient care.

Participate in patient rounds to ensure continuity of care.

Perform CPR as a RECOVER Certified Rescuer.

Collect samples and perform diagnostic tests, including in‑house, point‑of‑care tests, and diagnostic imaging.

Carry out nursing care tasks such as urinary catheter placement, nasoenteral tubes, oxygen tubes, chest and abdominal tubes.

Set up and troubleshoot oxygen cages and other administration techniques.

Administer, monitor, and maintain patients under general anesthesia with or without mechanical ventilation.

Perform advanced vascular access, ultrasonography, and paracentesis.

Formulate treatment, anesthetic, and nursing care plans.

Conduct treatments using clinical decision‑making skills according to protocolized plans.

Assist in managing patient care workload to maintain uncompromised care.

Coach and guide veterinary assistants and nurses to maintain standards of care.

Collaborate and share knowledge to ensure optimal patient care.

Obtain additional training on guided growth pathways such as VTS certification, trainer roles, coordination of care, community outreach, and leadership.

WHAT YOU NEED

High school diploma or equivalent.

Credentialed veterinary technician (CVT, RVT, LVT, LVMT) in the location of the VEG practice.

Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) certification considered for additional roles and compensation.

Basic computer skills using practice management, EMR, and collaboration software.

At least 1 year of experience in a veterinary technician role; experience in emergency or specialty medicine preferred.

Excellent written, verbal, and electronic communication skills with team and customers.

Fine motor skills for hospital equipment use (syringes, clippers, monitors, etc.).

Ability to stand for prolonged hours, kneel, work on the floor, and lift up to 25 kg alone or up to 40 kg with assistance.
