The Speech Pathologist is responsible for evaluating, treating, and counseling patients with speech, language, swallowing, or hearing disorders in accordance with professional and Methodist Healthcare standards of treatment. What You Will Do
Performs initial patient assessment on assigned patients.
Implements treatment activities.
Provides ongoing patient assessment through observation and records, reporting findings in a timely fashion.
Identifies patient-specific speech rehabilitation learning needs and provides appropriate education.
Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for self‑development and enhancement of professional competency.
Performs other job functions as assigned or requested.
Education / Formal Training Requirements
Master's Degree in Speech Pathology.
Work Experience Requirements
No prior work experience required.
Licenses and Certifications Requirements
Required: Speech‑Language Pathologist, Tennessee – Tennessee Board of Communication Disorders and Sciences.
Preferred: Speech‑Language Pathologist, Mississippi – Mississippi State Board of Health.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to understand and prepare moderately complex written materials, such as patient records.
Ability to communicate verbally with all levels of Associates, management, and physicians; clear speech, acceptable pronunciation, grammar, and word usage when serving as an example for patients.
Ability to work without close supervision and to exercise independent judgment.
Ability to organize multiple tasks and projects and maintain control of workflow.
Supervision Provided by this Position
No supervisory or lead responsibilities are assigned to this job.
Physical Demands
May include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
Must have good balance and coordination.
Medium work: exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently.
Requires close visual acuity, including color, depth perception, and field of vision for tasks such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading.
Frequent invasive and non‑invasive patient contact.
Exposure to patient body fluids and hazardous or poisonous materials.
Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
