Behavioral Health Mid-Level

This posting is open exclusively to current ADOC incumbent employees.

Location: William C. Holman Correctional Facility, Atmore, Alabama.

Overview
As a Behavioral Health Mid-Level, you will work alongside correctional officers and other medical and mental health professionals to ensure regulatory compliance, manage budgets, supervise multidisciplinary clinical staff, and develop community partnerships to deliver high‑quality, patient‑centered care within a controlled environment.

This is a unique position where you can make a difference to this diverse population of patients with complex mental health and medical needs.

Responsibilities

Defines department goals, develops policies, and oversees daily operations to improve mental health services.

Oversees treatment services, ensuring adherence to evidence‑based practices and high standards of care.

Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local laws, as well as accreditation standards. Investigates critical incidents and manages risks.

Directs recruitment, hiring, training, and performance evaluation of clinical staff (social workers, counselors, therapists).

Prepares, manages, and oversees the department budget and ensures financial viability.

Collaborates with medical, mental health, and correctional staff to enhance quality patient care while maintaining a safe and secure work environment.

Monitors compliance with site‑specific and company policies and procedures, taking appropriate corrective action, and ensuring compliance with ACA, NCCHC standards.

Qualifications

Education:

A master’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, or a related field.

Licensure:

Holds an active, unrestricted licensure as a LCSW, LCMHC, LMFT, LMHP, LISW, etc. in Alabama.

Certification:

Must possess an active BLS CPR Certification (American Heart Association preferred).

Minimum 5 + years of progressive experience in behavioral health, including clinical and administrative leadership in a mental health or acute care setting; correctional healthcare experience preferred.

Strong leadership, budgetary analysis, interpersonal, and communication skills.

Effective communication skills for building patient rapport and relaying information and treatment plans with other medical and mental health professionals.

Strong organizational skills to track patient treatment plans and progress notes.

Must maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information; exhibit integrity, professionalism, and compliance with the facility’s Code of Conduct and all relevant policies and legal requirements.

Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening.
