THERAPIST (LICENSED)

Responsibilities
Therapists are responsible for conducting therapeutic services for residents of La Amistad Behavioral Health Services. They provide counseling sessions for families, individuals and groups. Therapists interview and develop the psychological history, assess the therapeutic needs of the individual and family, develop appropriate treatment objectives and write monthly treatment summaries. Therapists act as the residents’ and families’ primary contact during the resident’s stay and advocate with the treatment team. They serve as liaisons with outside agencies to coordinate discharge planning.

Therapists provide individual therapy at a minimum of one (1) session per week, family therapy at a minimum of one (1) session per week, and group therapy at a minimum of four (4) times per week. Specialized therapy groups are assigned as needed.

Qualifications

Education: Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in social work, counseling or other related fields.

Experience: One year of direct clinical experience in family, individual and group therapy with children and/or adolescents. For specialized issues or treatment modalities, training must be specific to these areas: abuse reactive, sexual offending, substance abuse, sexual trauma, vocational, play therapy, art therapy and relaxation therapy. Must have knowledge of human development over the life span.

License/Certification: Current license from the State of Florida, such as LCSW, LMFT, LMFTI, LMHC or LMHCI.

Good verbal and written communication skills related to documenting assessments, treatment planning and interventions into a meaningful document. Must communicate clearly with interdisciplinary team members, managed care representatives, families and residents.

Knowledge of individual, group and family therapy dynamics and techniques within cultural, social, economic, communication and role expectations of family systems.

Knowledge of clinical skills to assess treatment dynamics accurately and develop effective treatment strategies within the overall treatment plan.

Physical Requirements: Minimal. May require response to crisis intervention.
