Responsibilities
Peraton is seeking a dedicated
Systems Administrator
to join our team. The candidate will become part of Peraton's Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Datacenter Consolidation and Cloud Optimization (DCCO) program managing a diverse array of systems at DataCenter1.
The position is primarily telework but requires candidates to be located within one hour driving distance of Stennis Space Center, MS for periodic onsite support. The core hours for the position are between 8am - 4pm (CST) Monday-Friday with occasional on-call after-hours support required when it is the candidate's week to be on-call or perform patching.
Day to Day Roles and Responsibilities:
Administer and maintain Linux and Windows systems in a secure enterprise environment.
Perform system patching, updates, and vulnerability remediation across all platforms
Implement and maintain STIG compliance (DISA STIGs) and ensure systems meet security baselines
Support audit readiness and compliance initiatives
Familiarity with VMware virtualization environments
Manage NetApp storage systems, including provisioning and performance optimization
Monitor systems for performance, availability, and security events
Create and maintain clear, accurate documentation (SOPs, system configurations, runbooks)
Communicate effectively with team members, stakeholders, and leadership
Troubleshoot and resolve complex system and infrastructure issues
Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of experience or a Masters degree and 6 years of experience or a High School diploma/equivalent and 12 years of experience.
Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain/maintain a DHS Public Trust clearance
Proven experience administering enterprise environments with both Windows and Linux systems
Windows Server 2016, 2019, and 2022
Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8 and 9
Hands on experience with system patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management across multiple platforms
Experience implementing and maintaining STIG compliance, including system hardening and audit readiness
Demonstrated ability to perform vulnerability remediation and enforce security best practices
Strong troubleshooting skills across operating systems, infrastructure, and applications
Ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks, with experience leading or mentoring junior team members as needed
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document processes and communicate with technical and non technical stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications:
Relevant industry certifications such as Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA), CompTIA Security+, or VMware Certified Professional (VCP)
Experience with VMware technologies, including vSphere and ESXi
Familiarity with enterprise storage solutions such as NetApp
Experience with backup and recovery tools such as Veritas NetBackup
Prior experience supporting systems in federal, DoD, or other regulated environments
Ability to create and maintain clear, detailed technical documentation
Experience working in remote or distributed team environments with minimal supervision

Target Salary Range
$80,000 - $128,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
